Avalanche warning for region Indre Fjordane Friday 12.03.2021

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Especially where the wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger here.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 11. March 2021

Mountain weather

10 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Storm from southeast, changing to strong breeze from the southeast during the afternoon. -9 °C to -2 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Friday 12. March 2021

10 mm precipitation, up to 22 mm in the most exposed areas. Fresh breeze from southwest. -8 °C to -2 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
